Kiddieland

Kiddlieland is an 81 year-old amusement park not more than 3 miles from our home in Oak Park. At first, we were skeptical about it since it is located in the midst of a bleak industrial highway. However, we became intrigued when we heard its history and took Collin and Grammy there one lovely cool evening. It was super clean, family-friendly and boasted free pepsi drinks throughout the park! There were really only 3 rides for grown-ups which meant there were not a lot of teenage hoodlums in attendance. A popular ride was the train that incircles the park (including the parking lot and dumpsters!).

Collin seemed to have a decent time (especially after his 11th free Mountain Dew!) but was probably about a year too young for most of the rides. He still wasn't big enough to stay sitting in the boats and cars by himself. Next year he would be the perfect age to really enjoy the joint.

This is especially sad because Kiddieland is shutting its doors forever on October 4th due to a lease dispute.

The park has always been a family business and began as a pony ride in 1929:

I wish Kiddieland could be around next summer, but if it has to go my next wish is that they leave the charming sign. That way as we pass it driving to O'Hare, I can remember our one and only night of Kiddieland fun.

First time on a carousel:

Waiting in line is fun when you have a goofy daddy!
